Taravella Baseball Blanked, No-Hit By Monarch, 2-0

CORAL SPRINGS, FL – The J.P. Taravella High School baseball team hopes to get back on the winning track Friday when they host Pembroke Pines Charter at 7 p.m.
The Trojans lost their second straight game after a 3-0 start, this time a 2-0 decision to Monarch High School on Tuesday night.
The visiting Knights got a sterling performance on the mound from junior pitcher David Berman who went six no-hit innings and struck out eight and walked four. Monarch senior Greg Stavrinos pitched the seventh inning and hit a batter, but finished off the no-hitter striking out one.
Monarch scored once in the first and added another in the sixth. Taravella sophomores Jassiel Valbuena, Edgar Marquez and Matt Rubin each reached on walks as did senior Stefano Libio. Senior Adam Montesino reached when he was hit by a pitch.
Taravella senior Brandon Nunez took the loss, going 3.1 innings allowing two hits and one earned run who struck out three. He also walked two and hit a batter. Senior Bryce Proulx came on in relief and tossed 3.2 innings and also allowed one earned run and two hits. He struck out six.
