Deerfield Beach residents call for an end to gun violence after a shooting incident left a teenager hospitalized

Deerfield Beach, Florida -Aside from the fact that Deerfield Beach has a lower crime rate than some neighboring communities and is generally considered a safe place to live, residents are calling for an end to violence after being disturbed by sirens, shots, and increased police presence yesterday.

The reason for the increased police presence around the park in the 400 block of Southwest Second Street was a shooting incident that left a teenager wounded.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office received a report regarding shots being fired shortly after 5 p.m. on Wednesday. When responding deputies got to the scene, they found a boy with a single wound to the head.

Paramedics transported the boy to Broward Health Norton, and the injuries he sustained were considered life-threatening. An update on the condition of the boy was not provided by officials since he was admitted to the hospital. The identity of the victim was not made public.

Authorities cordoned off the area around the crime scene as they were investigating the incident and looking for the person responsible for the shooting, although it is not clear whether an arrest was made at this time.

We had the opportunity to talk with some of the residents in the area today. One of the residents we spoke to, who asked to remain anonymous, said they were shaken by the incident and are urging the violence to stop. “It was a very sad day, I still can’t believe this happened to such a young boy. We just cannot allow this kind of behavior to continue in our city under any circumstances.”

The investigation remains open. As soon as more details become available, we will update this article.
