Florida International University linebacker Luke Knox dies at 22

MIAMI — A football player for Florida International has passed away with less than two weeks remaining till the start of the season.

The school made the sad announcement early Thursday morning that junior linebacker Luke Knox, who had moved to FIU from Mississippi over the winter, had passed away at the age of 22.

In a statement that was shared on Twitter, FIU head coach Mike MacIntyre said, “Words cannot express the heartfelt sorrow we feel because of the passing of our teammate and friend, Luke Knox. I had the honor of coaching Luke at Ole Miss and FIU. While I admired his passion for football, his genuine love for his family and teammates is what I will always remember.”

The FIU was unable to provide any details regarding the death.

The Tennessee native played for the Rebels in 23 games in each of the last four seasons.

“Luke’s family is special to me, and they will continually be in my heart and in my prayers during this difficult time. On behalf of the entire FIU football family, I extend my sincere condolences to Luke’s family and all who love him,” said MacIntyre.

On September 1st, the Panthers will play their first game of the season against Bryant.
