Pilot dead in small aircraft crash in Volusia County

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – On Wednesday, a small aircraft crashed in the woods east of Lake Ashby, killing the pilot, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

The deadly crash occurred at around 4:30 p.m. at Pell Road and Lopez Road in the Osteen area.

According to sheriff’s officials, the pilot was the only occupant of the aircraft.

The aircraft, described as a single-engine MX Aircraft MX2 by the Federal Aviation Administration, crashed south of Spruce Creek Airport.

There has been no information given on the pilot or the cause of the crash. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board have been alerted, according to deputies.
