Sentencing date set for mother found guilty in son’s death
LEE COUNTY, Fla. — A woman from Cape Coral who was previously found quilty for the murder of her child is scheduled to appear in court on Monday afternoon.
The sentencing date for Sheila O’Leary, which was initially scheduled to take place on July 25, has been moved to today at 1:30 p.m. at the Lee County Courthouse.
In 2019, criminal charges were brought against Sheila O’Leary and her husband, Ryan, in connection with the death of their son Ezra, who was 18 months old. Ryan has not been tried yet, and he is also being investigated for child sex abuse that is unconnected to the person who passed away.
During the trial that took place in June, it was established via testimony that the family adheres to a strict vegan diet. The couple reportedly told the investigators that their family consumed nothing but raw fruits and vegetables, despite the fact that the child also consumed breast milk.
According to the police investigation, the boy weighed only 17 pounds and had the size of a 7-month-old infant.
A similar condition of malnutrition was discovered in two other children, ages 3 and 5 at the time. A prior investigation into allegations of abuse committed against a third kid, who was 11 years old at the time, was conducted by DCF while the child was residing out of state.
O’Leary might get a life sentence in prison.
