Pilot arrested for threatening to crash after landing plane safely
TUPELO, Miss. — On Saturday morning, there was an aircraft that flew over northern Mississippi and had already touched down.
They say the pilot threatened to crash into Walmart, so the police got everyone out of the store as a safety measure.
The aircraft began flying in circles above Tupelo, Mississippi, around five in the morning. Hours passed until it finally touched down. According to the reports, the pilot was taken into custody.
According to the authorities, the Beechcraft King Air C90A was probably taken from a nearby airfield after being stolen. The investigation has been taken up by a number of government agencies, one of which is the Department of Homeland Security, and they are attempting to determine the motivation behind the attack.
Leslie Criss, a magazine editor who resides in Tupelo, had an early morning wake-up call and immediately began following the unfolding events on both television and social media. A few of her close friends were standing outside watching the aircraft go by.
“I’ve never seen anything like this in this town,” Criss said. “It’s a scary way to wake up on a Saturday morning.”
Steve Holland, a former state representative who now works as a funeral director in Tupelo, said that he had gotten calls from relatives who were worried about the aircraft.
“One called and said, ‘Oh, my God, do we need to cancel mother’s funeral?'” Holland said. “I just told them, ‘No, life’s going to go on.'”
