Garbage disposal issues in Port St. Lucie come to an end as new waste contractor officially begins Monday
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Port St. Lucie may soon no longer have to deal with its garbage disposal issues.
FCC Environmental Services, the city’s new garbage contractor, will formally take over for Waste Pro on Monday. This change will take effect immediately.
City officials have said on many occasions over the last few months that Waste Pro has been having trouble living up to its part of the deal. Waste Pro has cited a lack of available manpower as the primary cause for the delays in garbage collection.
The FCC will deploy 17 automated side-loader garbage trucks on Monday to collect the trash items that are contained inside the new 96-gallon trash carts that were given by the city.
Together with Optimum Services Inc., FCC will also collect rubbish from yards and bulky items.
In addition, on Monday, operations will begin with 15 automated side-loader recycling vehicles, 10 rear-loaders for yard and bulk garbage, two clamshell trucks for yard waste, and four rear-loaders for bulk waste.
According to statements made by city officials, six route managers have been appointed to the role of coordinating all service routes.
The garbage trucks that the city of Port St. Lucie rents will continue to respond to the most urgent service requests sent through 1PSL, the city’s resident portal.
When people use the new carts that have been supplied by the city, they will be responsible for ensuring that the opening of the lid faces the street.
