Candlelight vigil held in Broward County for cyclist killed by hit-and-run driver

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A candlelight vigil was held on Friday in Broward County in memory of Roy Miralda, who passed away earlier this week.

Among the attendees at the vigil were mourning relatives and friends of Miranda, as well as activists for increased street safety.

The vigil was held on the seventh day of the passing of 41-year-old Miralda. He was fatally struck in Pembroke Pines by a hit-and-run driver on November 5 at around 5:30 a.m. The crash occurred near the crossroads of Pembroke Road and Island Drive.

Authorities said Miralda was hit by a 2016 Nissan Altima with a tag LADQ40 from the state of Florida.

According to the police, the victim was about to meet with a group of cyclists for a ride in the morning when the fatal crash took place. The front bumper, the area around the headlights, the hood, and the front windshield of the Nissan Altima may have been damaged, according to the detectives.

Detectives requested that anybody who may have information on the investigation contact Broward County Crime Stoppers at the number 954-493-8477.
