Deputies in Flagler County arrested a minor for making mass shooting threats on a social media app
FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – Sheriff’s officials in Flagler County said that a 12-year-old girl was arrested on Wednesday for threatening on Snapchat to conduct a mass shooting at her middle school.
The sixth grader, who attends Indian Trails Middle School, is said to have sent the messages to other students on the social media app the day before she was arrested, as stated by the sheriff’s office.
According to the statements made by the sheriff’s office, the message about “killing people and shooting up the school” was brought to the attention of the authorities by the father of one of the students who had received it.
Allegedly, the girl tried earlier to obtain a firearm from another juvenile. According to the deputies, they went to her house in Palm Coast and asked to talk with her. Deputies say that although she initially declined, her parents encouraged her to tell the truth, and eventually she agreed.
According to the sheriff’s office, her parents informed deputies that she had revealed to them a few months ago that she was having suicidal thoughts, but they had not yet scheduled an appointment with a therapist. The girl is facing a charge for sending a written threat to conduct a mass shooting.
