Female driver arrested after causing several accidents, highjacking a FedEx truck on I-95
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An accident was caused by a motorist traveling the wrong way on Interstate 95 on Friday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The driver then stole a FedEx truck, crashed it downtown, and jumped into the St. Johns River after the collision.
An FHP report said that the wrong-way motorist, who was 25 years old and driving a white Range Rover in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95, was headed south at around 6:50 p.m.
As the SUV got closer to Emerson Street, the vehicle collided with a white Jeep Cherokee that was heading north. As a result of the collision, the Jeep Cherokee got disabled in the middle of Emerson Street and spun out of control. A grey Mercedes Benz that was traveling in the far left lane was struck by debris that had flown into the southbound lanes from the previous collision.
According to the state police, the motorist who was driving the wrong way got out of their SUV, took the driver from the FedEx truck that had been stopped as a result of the previous crash out, and then continued driving north on Interstate 95 toward downtown Jacksonville.
The 25-year-old woman drove to the Hyatt Regency, where she jumped out of the truck and into the St. Johns River after hitting a light pole.
In its report, the Florida Highway Patrol did not say if anyone was hurt in any of the crashes.
The woman was pulled out of the river by members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department as well as the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. She was placed under arrest immediately.
