Flagler County will hold two sandbag distributions ahead of Hurricane Ian
BUNNELL, Fla. – Ahead of Tropical Storm Ian’s anticipated path across Florida, the administration of Flagler County assisted the local people in preparing for the significant rainfall that was to come. According to the officials, there is a possibility of flooding in some regions.
At two different places on Sunday afternoon, residents of Flagler County were given sandbags to take home with them. Residents were only allowed to bring 10 sandbags inside their homes.
“Mostly, we were just grabbing bags for our mother-in-law because that rain will come in. Even just on a heavy day, we get two inches. With a hurricane, they’ll dump four or six — I don’t know how much — and if it just sits then that’s the problem,” Matt Randolph, Flager County resident said.
Angie Enyedi, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, said that each person needs to do a risk assessment for themselves.
According to the county’s officials, other stations all around the county will also provide sandbag pickups on Monday:
- Flagler Technical College – 5633 N. Oceanshore Blvd., The Hammock from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Fire Station 71 – 89 County Road 2006 West, Bunnell from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Palm Coast Public Works Yard – 1 Wellfield Grade, off U.S. 1 and just north of Palm Coast Parkway, Palm Coast starting at 9 a.m
- Santa Maria Del Mar Catholic Church – 915 N. Central Ave., Flagler Beach – times do be determined
In addition to making preparations with sandbags, authorities urge households to keep a seven-day supply of necessities such as food, water, and medicine. Be careful to check the functionality of the radio and flashlight, and replace any batteries that are old.
