Florida Legislators Representing Coral Springs File Bills Pushing For Safer Storage of Guns

CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Florida elected representatives for Coral Springs have proposed legislation to strengthen efforts to ensure the safe storage and use of firearms.
In a news release on Tuesday, Florida Senator Tina Polsky (D-Boca Raton) and Florida Rep. Christine Hunschofsky (D-Parkland) said they filed bills to safeguard that “guns remain safely stored when not in use, so that they do not end up in the hands of a child.”
“Our main goal is to address the gun violence crisis that has plagued the country,” Polsky said in the release. “We have all heard the tragic stories that are the result of firearms not being properly secured. If owners properly store their firearms in a lockbox or with a trigger lock many of these tragedies could be avoided.”
Senate bill 428 and its House companion, HB 167, would, among other things, revise requirements for safe storage of firearms and provide criminal penalties for those who fail to properly secure or store a firearm and enable minors to gains access to a weapon, according to the legislation.
The bills will be addressed during the upcoming legislative session, which is set to start in March.
Hunschofsky added “firearm safety begins at home.”
“With effective safeguards and education, we make our homes, our children, our families, and our communities safer,” Hunschofsky said in the news release.
