Florida reports 9,594 new coronavirus cases Tuesday, 227 resident deaths

State health officials confirmed 9,594 additional cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday and another 227 resident deaths as a result of the novel coronavirus.

That comes on the day that the worldwide total of cases has passed 100 million cases, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Florida has now verified 1,667,763 COVID-19 cases since the outbreak began and 25,673 resident deaths, according to the department of health.

Another 407 non-residents have died within the state, and there have been at least 70,802 resident hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus in Florida since the start of the outbreak.

Deaths verified in the past day include 12 in Miami-Dade County, five in Broward County and two in Palm Beach County.

The state has gone three straight days with fewer than 10,000 new COVID-19 cases after four consecutive days above that mark.

At least 1,446,580 vaccines have been administered in Florida, with 175,841 people in the state getting both shots that are needed. Miami-Dade has had 159,317 vaccinations, Broward has had 130,086 and Monroe 5,803, according to the latest numbers posted by the state.

Gov. Ron DeSantis said that the latest numbers reflect that the state has now vaccinated more than 1 million seniors 65 and older in the state, most in the country.

The statewide positivity rate on yesterday’s testing was 9.19%.

Cases: 103,495 (+527)

Deaths: 2,125 (+2)

Yesterday’s positivity: 9.56%
