Funeral held for high school senior killed in boating accident

MIAMI – On Monday, loved ones and friends came to celebrate the life of Lucy Fernandez and pay their respects.

Over Labor Day Weekend, the high school senior lost his life in a boating accident.

In memory of Fernandez, the Church of the Epiphany played host to a funeral liturgy on the day it was announced that she had passed away. She had reached the last year of her education at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy.

The teenager, who was 17 years old, passed away when a boat in the Florida Keys collided with a channel sign, which resulted in hundreds of passengers falling overboard.

At that time, there were a total of 14 individuals on board the boat.

At this stage of the inquiry, no charges have been pressed.
