Google reaches agreement with US to develop chips for researchers
The U.S. Department of Commerce has secured an agreement with Google to increase chip manufacturing for researchers.
Reuters reported that Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, struck a joint research and development deal with the U.S. government to generate additional chips for the development of new nanotechnology and semiconductor technologies.
According to financial website Seeking Alpha, California-based Google will cover the first expenses of manufacturing setup. In accordance with Washington’s regulations, it will fund the initial manufacturing run.
According to Undersecretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and NIST Director Laurie Locascio, the agreement was signed prior to the passage of the CHIPS and Science Act.
According to Locascio, this is a terrific example of how government, business, and academic researchers can collaborate to strengthen U.S. leadership in this crucial field.
