Key witness in Gov. Whitmer abduction plan asking to be released

A key witness who testified against others in the attempt to kidnap the governor of Michigan is seeking a reduced prison sentence and release from prison.

Ty Garbin wants to reduce his six-year sentence for conspiracy by more than four years. The prosecutors agree that a break is warranted, but they only seek a three-year reduction.

Federal Judge Robert Jonker will make the decision. Approximately two years have passed since Garbin’s arrest in 2020.

Cooperating promptly, he pled guilty to plotting to abduct Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Two other individuals were found guilty, while two others were acquitted.

Kaleb Franks, the sixth man, also pled guilty and testified for the government.
