Lake County collaborates with organizations to organize a food drive for hurricane victims
LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – County officials said in a statement on Monday that the county will work with community groups to organize a food drive on Wednesday for people who may need help because of Hurricane Ian.
The statement states that in order to organize the food drive, the county will be collaborating with Lake Support and Emergency Recovery, better known as L.A.S.E.R., as well as Kroger.
“Kroger’s purpose is to feed the human spirit, and I’m so proud to see the ways our associates are supporting their neighbors impacted by Hurricane Ian,” Stacey Dark, general manager of the Kroger Delivery Groveland Fulfillment Center, said. “We are grateful to work with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department and Lake Support and Emergency Recovery, connecting communities with the food, water, and other essential items that provide comfort in these difficult days.”
The food drive will take place on Wednesday, October 5 at the parking lot located at the Butler Street Boat Ramp in Astor between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The county is requesting that citizens either donate food to the event or spread the word about the upcoming food drive to individuals who may be in need of assistance.
Donations may be sent to L.A.S.E.R. via this website or by phoning the organization at the following number: (352) 241-2104. Those who are interested in assisting their community can do so through L.A.S.E.R. According to the announcement, L.A.S.E.R. is collecting contributions of money and food that does not need to be refrigerated or frozen. However, they are not asking for donations of clothing at this time.
