Man charged with murder after a Jacksonville deadly shooting
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man has been charged in connection with the murder of a man who was discovered dead on a sidewalk early on Monday morning, according to the Jacksonville Police Department.
Quinton Burney, age 25, was charged with two counts of second-degree murder, one count of armed robbery, one count of tampering with evidence, and one count of car theft.
JSO reports that shortly before 10:00 a.m., a pedestrian on the 5800 block of Norwood Avenue flagged down a police officer and alerted him to an unresponsive individual who was lying on the sidewalk nearby.
The victim was described as a guy between the ages of 30 and 40 and had at least one gunshot wound, according to the police. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department was sent to the location, where they determined that he had passed away.
Since police were trying to figure out when and where the victim was shot, a large part of the area around where the body was found was cordoned off with police tape.
As a result of their investigation, the Homicide Team 6 detectives at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office knew right away that Burney was the suspect.
The suspect was taken into custody by members of the Community Problem Response Unit, which is a division of the Violence Reduction Section of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. After that, he was booked into the Pre-Trial Detention Facility.
