Man convicted of killing two women in Broward County will be released soon
PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – The man who was found guilty of murdering two women in Broward County, in 1986 and sentenced to imprisonment in a Florida jail will be out in less than ninety days.
Gary Troutman was convicted of the murder of Cassandra Scott. The 17-year-old Cassandra Scott was pregnant at the time of her death.
Nearly a month later, in March 1986, Angela Savage, then 24 years old, was discovered to have been beaten to death and sexually assaulted.
Troutman was eventually arrested for killing Scott, but he was set free in early 2007, the same year DNA evidence linked him to Angela Savage.
Troutman entered a guilty plea for the murder of Savage in exchange for a 30-year sentence.
Initially, charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping, and rape were brought against Troutman. However, the kidnapping and rape charges were eventually dismissed. The charge of murder in the first degree was reduced to murder in the second degree.
But less than 15 years into the sentence, Savage’s family got a letter notifying them Troutman is getting out early because of jail time served and gain time.
