Man fatally shot in Davie while trying to protect a relative from her ex-husband
DAVIE, Fla. – Police said that a teenage girl in Davie witnessed her relative being killed by Luis Rodriguez on Sunday while trying to protect her mother.
Authorities said a teenage girl was driving when she saw Rodriguez parked outside of their mobile home. She was so terrified that she contacted her mother to alert her, hesitated to go inside their house, and ultimately chose to go get her uncle for help.
Despite having a protective order, Rodriguez did not hesitate to drive to the teenage girl’s mother’s home at Driftwood Acres Mobile Home Park near Griffin Road and Southwest 47 Lane, threatening to kill her.
Rodriguez opened fire, but a relative of the mother got in the way and hugged her in order to protect her. The incident was deemed domestic violence by authorities. The relative was pronounced dead at the scene, while the mother was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood by Fire Rescue.
Rodriguez was arrested afterwards, and he confessed to the crime. According to court records, he was held at the Broward County main jail and is facing several charges, including premeditated murder, two counts of attempted murder, and two counts of aggravated assault.
