New lead discovered in the investigation of a missing Miami-Dade boy
MIAMI – Six-year-old Jorge “Jojo” Morales, missing since August 27 from Miami-Dade County and the subject of an Amber Alert issued by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, may have been in a car that was found abandoned in Maine, which might lead authorities to him.
The investigators in Miami-Dade thought that Jorge, who has autistic spectrum disorder, was driving a gray 2006 Ford Expedition with the Florida license plate number CSI-U53. Early on Saturday morning, Detective Alvaro Zabaleta, a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Police Department, said that they were “informed” of the car in Maine.
“Investigators are trying to determine if the vehicle has any involvement in the case,” Zabaleta wrote in an e-mail.
Jorge’s mother, Yanet Leal Concepcion, broke down in tears as she explained to the cops that she and Jorge Morales, Jorge’s father, had been involved in a custody fight.
Concepcion said that she and Morales had been embroiled in an ongoing custody dispute ever since she left her former partner around three years ago. The detectives assume Morales is responsible for Jorge’s abduction.
“Every time I close my eyes I see him and I just want him running toward me and to hug me and I’m afraid, I’m terrified, I’m really broken,” Concepcion said in August.
