Part of Broward County evacuated due to hazmat incident

DAVIE, Fla. – On Sunday, a portion of Broward County was ordered to be evacuated after a hazardous materials incident was reported in the area.

From Hollywood Boulevard to Griffin Road, the Florida Turnpike was closed to traffic in both directions, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.  According to the FHP, this happened as a result of a hazardous materials incident that occurred near the 5000 block of Southwest 51st Street in Davie.

Due to a hazmat call, the Davie police said in a tweet that the Sterling Ranches area needed to be evacuated.

The call to the police was reportedly over “the smell of ammonia in the area,” according to the police.

According to the authorities, all of the routes in and surrounding the Sterling Ranches neighborhood have been reopened.
