Teenage boy accused of ‘pure evil’ will be prosecuted as an adult in Broward
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – On Tuesday in court in Broward County, Florida, the prosecutors announced to the judge that they would be prosecuting Jamarius Charles as an adult.
According to the prosecution, a woman was abducted at gunpoint on September 14 at Pompano Beach by a boy who was 16 years old and Corey Jones, who was 18 years old.
The woman said that the suspects took her 2021 Toyota RAV4, forced her to withdraw $400 from an ATM, raped her while threatening to kill her, and then drove off with the vehicle.
“They said about a million times that they were going to kill me,” she said after their arrest. “It was torture, pure evil.”
On September 15, detectives took Charles and Jones into custody. The Broward Detention Department keeps records that show Jones was in the Joseph V. Conte Facility and Charles was moved on Monday to the Paul Rein Detention Facility.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Charles and Jones taped films of themselves engaging in sexual attacks on the victims. Two mobile phones, including one that belonged to the victim, were reportedly taken from Charles by the deputies.
Jones is being charged with a total of ten crimes, including carjacking with a gun, kidnapping for ransom, trespassing on school property, resisting arrest, and four counts of sexual assault with a weapon.
Charles is being held accountable for seven crimes, including three counts of sexual assault with a weapon, two acts of robbery, carjacking while armed, and ransom kidnapping.
The case of a capital sex offense was given to Broward Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer to preside over.
