Two New Basketball Courts at Cypress Park in Coral Springs

Coral Springs, Florida – Coral Springs will invest $243,240 in building two new basketball courts across from Cypress Park.
According to City commissioners, they unanimously approved the money Wednesday to pay Sagaris Corp. of Coral Springs to build the basketball courts at Cypress Hammock Park, which is next to Cypress Water Park at 1300 Coral Springs Drive.
The basketball courts will replace two full-basketball courts and two half-courts at Cypress Park as a way to reduce noise from the basketball players at the courts. This decision brought criticism from many basketball players who urged city officials to build new courts elsewhere.
The new courts will be built over the parking lot on the east side of Cypress Hammock Park, just south of the main entrance into the park. The approved $243,240 contract includes $10,000 for “miscellaneous work allowance.” Change orders on the project are also approved for up to $45,000
“We’re happy to get this started and over with,” said Robert Hunter, who is the city’s parks and recreation director.
According to Hunter, the park has room for a third court if needed depending on demand for the two new courts.
“It would fit in the area if need be,” he said.
Hunter said the new courts will be built within three to four months.
