Volunteers Needed for Broward: Read for the Record!
LAUDERHILL – The Children’s Services Council of Broward County (CSC) sponsors the community-wide Campaign for Grade-Level Reading. This program helps kids, parents, and teachers with reading and early education and gives them access to more resources.
Broward: Read for the Record! is a part of this campaign. It is part of the worldwide Jumpstart Read for the Record initiative, which aims to raise awareness of how important early reading is and give kids access to good children’s books.
Read for the Record brings together millions of adults and children to read the same book on the same day every year. This helps people of different ages connect through reading.
This year’s chosen book is Nigel and the Moon, which was written by Antwan Eady and illustrated by Grace Zhang. The book, published by HarperCollins, encourages youngsters to appreciate their origins, identities, and aspirations.
The author will attend the Broward County Library’s Literary Conference in South Florida. He will read to pupils at Thurgood Marshal Elementary School.

The CSC, Broward County Public Schools and other partners, coordinate activities where volunteers read “Nigel and the Moon” to 40,000 students in 500 VPK centers, 225 schools, and 1,500 classrooms throughout Broward County! Volunteers are encouraged to sign up to read at HandsOnBroward.org.
