Windermere prohibits smoking and vaping in public parks

WINDERMERE, Fla. – The town of Windermere has made it illegal to smoke and vape in public parks that are owned by the town.

Robert Smith, the town manager, said that the policy was based on an ordinance that the state passed in February that gave towns the right to ban smoking on their own beaches and parks.

When we talked with Smith before Tuesday’s meeting, he said that there had been no pushback from the community on the ordinance.

Smith said, “It’s something the city encourages; they want everyone to use the parks.”

According to the municipality’s website, twelve parks will be affected.
